How We Grade Heat at PLB (And Why Honesty Beats Machismo)
Share
Snack brands lie about heat. "Extreme!" packets that taste like paprika; "mild" ones that ambush you. So when we rebuilt plbsnacks.com, we gave every single product an honest heat grade — 0 to 3 chillies, displayed right on the card. Here's the scale.
🌶️ Level 0 — All flavour, no fire
Nothing to fear. Candy, pandan rolls, salted-crisp classics like our Sour Cream & Onion crackle. Kids and chilli-averse relatives are safe here.
🌶️ Level 1 — A polite warmth
A gentle glow that says hello and leaves. Sweet chilli chicken skin, salted egg snacks with their whisper of pepper, our Lemon Pepper crackle. If you eat Indian food daily, you'll barely register it.
🌶️🌶️ Level 2 — Now we're talking
Real heat that builds — tom yum's chilli-lime zing, Korean chilli, wasabi's nose-tingle, our Spanish Chorizo and Masala Madness bites. Satisfying for spice lovers, manageable for most.
🌶️🌶️🌶️ Level 3 — Sign the waiver
Mala's numbing buzz and our Ghost Chilli crackle. Genuinely hot — graded by people who grew up on Assamese bhut jolokia and still respect it. Keep a drink nearby.
Calibrated for India
One important note: we grade for Indian palates. A Thai "medium" and a European "medium" are different planets — our scale assumes you already know your way around a green chilli. Level 2 here would be a level 4 in Berlin.
Browse by heat in the spicy collection, or work your way up from the zero-chilli zone.
